I think just about every collector goes through active and inactive periods. By that I mean phases where a collector is invigorated about collecting and then times when they just want to take a break. Because I sell on a daily basis I haven't disengaged entirely in the last few years, but I have gone through patches where I am much more excited about collecting than others. Today I find myself enjoying the hobby as much as I ever have, if not more. I attribute this to the way my collecting has evolved and my improvement in grading coins on my own. I used to almost always search for graded coins in the highest grade I can afford. In other words I was label hunting and not so much coin hunting. For certain issues I still take that approach, but I find that I now try to gauge a coins value versus its grade AND appearance. For me this makes collecting more challenging and enjoyable.
