Really defined 1961 penny? Why?

    I was just wondering two things why is the front of this penny turning dark but not the back? And why is the picture on the front so defined? You can feel the difference.

    If one side is darker than the other, it may be the way that coin "sat" for a good part of it's life. I guess you could liken it to a sunbather who never turns over.

    The recesses of the devices of the obverse die are cut deeper than the recesses of the devices of the reverse die.

    @cpm9ball Ok thank you i was more curious about the defibed picture lol iidk it just looks and feels deeper than any other ive seen but thank you again for your response.
