I was gifted some coins from my late uncle today. He collected mainly silver coins and Mint sets. This 1921 Morgan just looks different to my other Morgan dollars. I don’t have a scale to weigh it, also a magnet does not stick to it. My uncle passed at least 12 years ago. So I would say this coin has not seen daylight for about 15 years. Thoughts from the experts please?
Yep. That's what Morgans look like after someone scrubs them with a wire brush. See that black around the edges? The whole coin was probably black like that. There are less destructive ways to get the black off, but most people's first reaction is "it's dirty, scrub off the dirt."
Probably not. See how it's only in the recessed areas? Those are the places where the brush couldn't reach. If it were from the book, it would be as heavy or heavier on the high points.
