Hello all !!! I recently acquired this Morgan dollar ((pictures added hopefully)) . I've been searching site after site to determine if Fake or not, But so far the weight 26.7 grams, also isn't attracted to magnets. Can anyone HELP with this maybe? Thanks in advance
This one looks kinda weird to me. i dont have anything to compare it to but the date... weird looking
Is this real or fake? Weight: 11.64 g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Coin-US-19...5y9x%2BRzo%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc
Plz bear with me...are you saying mushy as in it has seen better days or mushy as in a poor quality counterfeit job? Either or other kind of reason?
All details are soft or mushy. The coloring and the wear. Look at the reverse. Noticevthecwear on the Eagles breast and legs. Compare that to the wear on the claws, neck feathers and wings. Morgans don't wear like that. Also the mintmark, the wreath and lettering show also no signs of wear. Same for the obverse, Liberty's hair is worn, even on her neck but no wear on her cheeks or the date. All the stars are mushy and they should be sharp, even if worn. The entire coin lacks detail. Even in a lower grade this is a $400 coin. It just says fake to me. I wouldn't touch it.
I'm saying it's mushy as in a poor quality counterfeit! There's other reasons as well, like the date and coloring, lack of luster etc. The date itself makes it scream counterfeit on a higher level, meaning if you don't notice the mushiness you will surely notice the date. My guess is it was likely made by the notorious counterfeiter from China, name is Sum Yung Guy! j/k
OK the one I thought was real is a fake. So maybe this will be the real thing. Didn't want to send off for grading and be an easy spotted fake. That cost me money I don't have. So thank you all for the time
@Tom S Lipscomb - I think your Ebay coin was mixed up with the coin at the beginning of this post - most of the comments are aimed at the Morgan I think...
My comments are based on the 1895, not the 1889. The 1889 photo is too blurry for me to comment. My comments are based off of a photo so if you have a LCS nearby, please take your coin there.
