I have a chance to buy this coin tomorrow. The seller guarantees authenticity, but I'm having doubts. I checked the fake databases, but I'm not sure if I find a match or not. I know the saying that if there are doubts there are no doubts, but any help will be appreciated: L TITURIUS LF SABINUS
I wouldn't touch it personally (I think I see casting pearls :scratch. Several of his coins I find quite doubtfull also... and he had a few negs for selling forgeries
Style is right which is a bad sign in this case since a cast made from a genuine original will have correct style. I agree with the pass.
Thanks for responding Batman and Doug. After reading Rudi's post yesterday, I began to be suspicious. With a little more objectiveity, I looked a little closer and saw what I thought looked like casting bubbles. I'm not very good at spotting fakes, but I think I'm getting better. I also knew this seller was on the NFSL which should have been enough to sound warning bells, but, I love the design on the coin, so I wanted confirmation before I passed on it or committed to buy. I will pass (doggone it). I'm going to get one of these some day, but one I will be able to trust not to be fake. Thanks again.
Interesting. I've looked at this guy's stuff from time to time, and it always looked sort of off - bland - almost as if it was cast plaster. That's hardly an educated opinion, of course, but I do find it confirms my instincts to see him on a black list.
