I was curious as to the rationale people here use in getting rolls at the bank. Do you get machine rolled or do you prefer rolls that have been deposited? Whoopig mentioned on another thread that he\she (sorry Whoop, I don't know your gender) request rolls that have been deposited. In my recent hunt for coins the mint requested be mixed with circulated, I have been focusing on machine rolled. There have been times passed when I found some silver or wheats in rolls that came from the local school. It is a matter of personal opinion, and no real "right" or "wrong" answer, but I would like to hear why people make the choice they do. And if you have had better luck with one over the other. When the bank didn't have machine rolled, I would get deposited rolls and have had a little luck with a few coins. What is your preference and why?
I would rather have deposited/paper wrapped rolls, rather than machine shrink-wrapped rolls. The coins from individuals tend to be older and have less gouges/counting machine marks than armoured car company rolls. That's just been my observation. Your milage may vary.
I as well prefer deposited rolls too. However, I have had some neat finds in bank rolls such as a 1929 canadian nickel! I never saw one of those before. Also, when I got a $25 box of cents, I found that some rolls were over stuffed and even found a couple of dimes in there! David
I mostly look only at circulated quarters now days. I'll still look through a batch of new coins of any denomination but won't chase them down unless this is a release point for something exciting. In the circulated coins there are many dozens of varieties or upgrades for my collections. More importantly each of these coins has an important story to tell. While the stories of '97 Wasshingtons may all be very similar it gets much more interesting as you go back in time. It's not just the individual stories, it's the distribution from mint to mint and year to year. There's always something new to learn.
