I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me decipher the rarity scale for Karwiese 5. It's on my list of references to buy. But if someone here is familiar with this volume I would greatly appreciate the help.

I saw a coin listed as Karwiese 465 (V9/R7). Maybe V is number of specimens, R is rarity, so 7 on a scale of 10?

Without having access to the book, I assume it contains a die catalogue.

465 will be the number of the die combination, struck from the two dies specified within parentheses: obv. die 9 and rev. die 7. So nothing to do with rarity, which one could however determine by counting the numbers of dies and specimens that the author lists for each type.

Ah, thank you! It makes sense to me now, I see that it indicates the obverse/reverse die combination. I will need to get my hands on that book. Thanks again.
