Rare coins found by police in raid CanWest News Service Published: Thursday, July 19, 2007 EDMONTON (CNS) -- Edmonton police raided a house in west division and turned up a number of century-old collectors coins and bills. But they have no idea who they belong to, police spokesperson Karen Carlson said. The problem started with a break-and-enter to a west-end home in early June. Police followed that incident with a search warrant and raid on second house June 6. The money find was a surprise. The coins and bills don't belong to the residents of either house. The money includes an 1864 $5 US bill, 1885 and 1887 US Silver dollars, JFK half dollar coins as early as 1968 and RCMP commemorative silver dollars from 1970-1974.
"Rare" is such a relative term. All of that stuff is much rarer than a circulated Lincoln Memorial cent, anyhow.
What I don't understand is, if they didn't know who the coins belonged to, how did they know they didn't belong to the people who's home they raided? they could have been coin collectors and felons at the same time. Guy~
The $5 note should be worth something. As for the rest of the rare coins that collection is worth at least......dollars!
