Right now my rainbow toned dollar set only has two coins but it is growing. I received this one in an NGC holder yesterday from an Internet sale. I was afraid that the Internet photo was juiced-up but the coin I received is incredibly bright & colorful. I had to turn up the saturation on my photos to make the image begin to look like the coin in hand. I’m quite happy with this 1971 dated coin. I’ve seen several 1971 dollars with colorful toning. Does anyone know why there are so many 1971 rainbow dollars? Enjoy & thanks for letting me share. PLEASE POST YOUR COLORFUL CANADIAN DOLLARS Very best regards, collect89
Very pretty coin! Thanks for sharing! It is not uncommon to see these coins attractively toned. Any ideas why?

My guess is the packaging they were originally shipped in (or subsequently sold in) toned the coins -- similar to the 1950's proof sets from the US. But that's really just a guess....
