just wanted to get a professional opinion on if this looks A/t or N/T to anyone, It looks natural to me but im no professional. heres the link, the reverse isn't that great but the obverse should be plenty to go by. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140409749944&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:US:1123 And I did win this. Still my birth year so I liked it anyway regardless.
The coin is real but the toning isn't. The untoned cresent from 1 - 5 o'clock on the obverse is back to back to the untoned cresent on the reverse which is indicitive that it was dipped into something to cause the toning, and that clear cresent is where the coin was held, possibly by tweezers.
if you scroll further down after the discription it states that the ridge in which you are refering to that looks silver is a candy blue, not that im arguing i just didnt know if you read that.
I agree with the others that it is AT, but hey, it's your birthday and it didn't cost that much. Just don't submit it for grading as that would be throwing your money away. Another giveaway to the NT/AT question can sometimes be answered if you look at other items the seller may have. In this case, the seller has a considerable selection of coins from IHC's to Kennedy's, all of which have unusual toning patterns and colors that you would not ordinarily see. Chris
This is correct, but it is also the reason I have to send all of my coins to TPG's. For instance, what if when Lehigh was to sell his coins everybody passed because he had too many toned examples to be true???? I know where your coming from and the coin is AT, but I feel if your going to collect them you better soak up some knowledge.......Everyone will get fooled once in a while, just try to limit it as much as u can
Wow, that thought is enough to give me nightmares. Every time I click on this thread I feel like I guy rubbernecking a fender bender with no injuries or damage. Well maybe the license plate got knocked off. I wouldn't worry about that crappy coin you bought. Think of it this way, a drink at a bar costs more. Having said that, you should probably stop buying crap like that. I going to have another nickel, I mean drink at the bar.:goofer:
Everything this seller sells is rainbow toned. He even buys much of this on ebay, does his "thing" and sells it without a care that anybody with an IQ above 90 could figure it out. I'm just amazed at how many of the buyers return time and again to buy this stuff again and again. Almost all of these are very common coins that he Rx's up and sells for nice little profit.
The downside to this is that the top grading services are being pretty tough on toning at present. So, the question is how long must you wait before you submit a recent purchase to learn if it is acceptable or not? Chris
I just went through his feedback and you can see exactly what he is doing. Here is the link to the auction he won and here is the link to the auction were he sold the exact same coin after he finished doing his science project on it. If you look through his other auctions he has won, you can see were very recently he has bought numerous 2000 and 2001 kennedy halfs. How many does this guy need unless he is doctoring them up and reselling them for a profit. I dont like people like this who take advantage of others.
no doubt, and it doesn't discourage at all. i asked my question and it was answered and i learned from it. thank you all who answered, it wasn't the only coin i bought that day but it was the only toned.
