Just picked up this guy with a mixed set of Jeffersons. I think I got a good deal (on the 'bay). The coin has a really nice blue/red toning to it. I would probably guess MS63. Not the strongest strike (only about 2.5 steps, and a little weak on the OBV too). Some ungly toning on the rim. Just a neat find I figured people would like to see. The seller had some pretty bad pictures (worse than the ones below...took with my phone). I ended up getting the below coin, a BU Toned 1938D (MS62?), a BU/AU 1939S, and an BU/AU dark toned 1942D (type 1) in a group for not much $$$. Any idea what something like the above 1943P might be worth? I knows its one of the most common silvers (I have a bunch of pretty ugly ones...seems every war nickle I find is a 1943-P). Plus the steps are not outstanding.
I bet it's a beaut in hand...pcgs lists a ms 63 1943 p for $8. I'm not sure what kind of premium the toning would command, but if you listed it back on the bay with good photos it could perform very well. I'd personally consider paying not more than $15 for it, but that's just me. Could be AT, but it really isn't worth getting graded by a tpg.
That is a beautiful Jefferson. I am not so sure if the toning is natural. It doesn't appear to have full steps either. That being said, a toner Jefferson lover would likely pay between $25-$75 for it.
The colors do look like they fall under the category for AT coins, but this one, in my opinion, looks pretty natural in the way that the toning completely "fits" perfectly with the fields of the coin. But, yes, like you said, it is still possibly AT (I'd hope it's not though because SHE'S SO PURRRTY). -Brian
It doesn't have very good steps, probably 3-3.5 is all. I didn't even consider getting it slabbed due to that fact. Other than that it looks like it would grade high...MS63-MS64 was my guess. The strike is not very strong, which kinda sucks. You can see the lightness of the strike on the OBV in the top edge of "IN GOD WE TRUST". As far as natural vs artificial toning goes...I can't really speculate either way. The person I bought them from wasn't a collector and it sounded like they were selling off a bunch of odds and ends (maybe estate coins?), so if it is AT, then I am guessing it wasn't from them. I don't know enough about AT vs NT to be able to make a decision. Either way, she is a beaut. In good lighting its pretty awesome.
