I recently purchased on eBay a QX 3 microscope. Do any of you have one? How have you used it? Do you find it useful? I am trying to decide if I am going to keep this tool or resell it? Very interested in hearing your comments.
I've had the QX5 model for about 3 months now. I'm satisfied but had to make a few adjustments. (1) added weight to the bottom pedistal - It was too light and moved when adjusting focus or changing mag power. I use 2 - 10 oz silver bars (2) had to silicone the up & down knob and slide - it chattered after awhile (3) be careful what you clean the lens with, its plastic (4) made a small wooden wedge because some coins "Die Cracks" show up better when on slight angle. My grand kids love it and we have spent hours viewing and playing "what is it games" They can watch the comp screen and don't fight over who's turn it is to see. I like how I can take pics and transfer them to files on my comp, or E-mail them. I also like being able to put arrows and wording on the pics All in all I think it was money well spent
I've had good luck with the 10x and 60x settings on my QX3, but the depth of field on the 200x is just too tight for good focus. I have had a color problem though - all my pictures come out looking like red-brown copper coins no matter what they are made of.
