Just wondering if I'm missing something here. Couldn't find much of anything while searching this forum or Google, so if this is ridiculously stupid than, I apologize in advance. That being said.. Why is the label on this coin, graded by PCGS and MS67.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-P-Geor...44?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item232579f4ac ..and then on their registry site, this coin(9th coin down on the registry list) appears to need an SP designation? http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/alltimeset.aspx?s=36775 Are the SP and MS interchangeable terms in these sets? I get that SP denotes the satin finish in a lot of cases, but then why label the coins MS? Again, apologies if this is a silly question. I'm just a bit confused.
PCGS origionally slabbed both the business strikes and the satin finish coins with "MS" grades. A few years ago, they changed to giving satins ""SP" grades instead of "MS". Many holders you come across will still show MS. If the coin is reholdered for any reason, the ms will be replaced by sp.
