I have a ""Redbook" on US proofs, but it doesn't mention a whole lot about the other types of Proof sets like the Legacy set that was just a sell out, the Prestige Proofs and the S.M.S sets, is there a better book that will cover this topic???

Is there a book for Mint sets??? That covers each year and the variations??? I love to read and learn...

2nd to lastly, When ordering Proof Sets

How do you tell the differences in the special attributes for certian years, such as

    1960 L.D. L.D. = Large Date
    1960 S.D. S.D.= Small Date

    1969 -S No.S.D - No S Dime
    1970 -S S.D.C - Small Date Cent
    1970 -S No.S.D. - No S Dime

    1971 -S N.S.N.- No S Nickel

When I look on e-bay I rarly see mention of this and on coinshop sites I never see mention....

They just list 1960 Proof set or whatever year set...

    And on Mint Sets

    1970 L.D.
    1970 S.D.

I'm trying to build a whole set of each...

Lastly, Ive got several (1959, 62, 63 )proof sets where the Nickel looks really toned... Almost a golden... I think I have one or two where the Dime looks this way too...

Looks kinda neat, but I figure with my luck and if I have it, it has to be a distraction or a negative... Opinions? I kinda dig'em, but I'm curious what you all think....

There are several books, the one I use is United States Mint Sets and Proof Sets by Ron Guth and Bill Gale. I believe David Lange wrote another and there are a couple of more. Go to the Numismatic Resources section and fine the thread titled BOOKS. In it you will find search engines specifically designed to find books from all over the world - use them and you can find any book.

As for the specific sets you have mentioned, just do a search here on the forum. Every single one of them you mentioned has been discussed many times complete with pics and explanations.

As for toning on Mint & Proof sets, personally I love it and would pay a premium for nicely toned coins. Many others would as well.

I have a 1960-small date proof set. I noticed that the Red Book does not say what the mintage is but if I remember I thought it was 35,000 estimated. Anyone know the answer and if it is that low why not popular

I would go with the book GD said. I think it is what you are looking for if I read your post correctly. Also, of course if you can, can we see some pics of the toned nickels and dimes? Toned proofs are sometimes very pretty coins, (if toned correctly) and sound like yours seem to be toned nicely.

No one can say definitively what the mintage was, but it has been estimated to be from 130,000 - 150,000.

These are just estimates based on observation. d/d is the RPM dime,
sm dt is S cent, DDO is D half, high speed is all three coins, type "d' is
P quarter, RR is rotated reverse P half.

There are many more and important varieties which appear in mint sets
but these are my favorites with a high enough incidence to get a mean-
    ingful estimate of mintage.

This is also a year and a half old so surviving numbers would be decreased
a little in a total edit.
