how much are the errors i have seen on these forums really worth, or worth looking for on modern circulated coins. things like doubled dates die chips/cracks delamination cud struck through grease i realize some things are worth it on key dates, and large errors like brockages die caps major die rotations but is any of this worth searching for on non key date circulated coins? seems to me it only makes more than a few pennies of worth unless it is a large error on a good condition coin. am i wrong?
You pretty well got it. Except that I would add doubled dies (different from machine/mechanical doubling) to the higher dollar ones and some of the cuds get not bad money. Clipped planchets, multiple strikes, off centers', some extreme laminations, broadstrikes and brockages are also collectible errors. Also be on the lookout for coins struck on the wrong planchets. There is a list in the Red Book of errors to watch for. As for die chips, die cracks, struck through grease (unless extreme), they are the result from usual coin production and are common. Die cracks that create interesting flaws in the design or die shattering sometimes add value to the coin. This site is a good one to see up-to-date error finds: http://minterrornews.com/priceguide.html
A key date error is known as a White Elephant. Error collectors collect errors, not key dates. They don't want to pay extra for an error coin that happens to be a key date. Key date collectors don't want to pay big bucks for a key date that is an error. So what is a key date error worth? And who wants it at what price?
thanks diggit. thats a great site. they actually have a price list. umm...ever come across a good site like this for canadian coins? thanks hobo. wow that made it simpler lol
