Hi all, I have been searching cents for almost a year now, and decided it was time to try something different. I went to my normal bank, and as always they had what I needed, nickels. I picked up fifteen rolls and found a 1935 buffalo 12-18 pre-1970 jeffersons. I have the general idea, but what exactly am I looking for besides the two types I mentioned? Also, what are the key dates for Jefferson nickels?:rollling: Thanks, scouter35
Look for nickels dated 1942-1945 with a large letter above Monticello which means it is a silver war nickel worth $1.50 each. Not all 1942's have the large letter but all 1943-1945 ARE silver war nickels.
Key dates or low mints are: 1938-S 1938-D 1939-D 1939-S 1950-D Get a Red Book if you don't have one already that will help. You can get older versions for pretty cheap on ebay, but the newest version Is below $15 I think anyway. Also, if you are going to be doing Nickels a lot I would buy a Whitman folder too, to help organize your finds and keep you on your toes as far as what you still need. Good luck, and have at it!
