Quite a bit, if you include the gold. ;)

Barber half might too if you want a decent one.
Everything else is pretty cheap. ($20 or less for most high grades)

For lower circulated grades, you should be able to do the whole set for less than $100 with no problem.

That is a good point! Do you want a circulated set or a uncirculated set? The Unc set will cost a small fortune while the Circ set won't.

Wow! If you manage to accomplish that, let us know where you're buying your coins. Even a G example of most half cents or a G-VG bust cent will cost you $100. I think you need to add a zero or two to that estimate, and you might be halfway there.

Depends on what grade you want I suppose... $70-75 ought to get it done I think.

Figure circulated stuff, common dates, decent enough to have some eye appeal..

    $1:

Morgan, Peace.. probably snag 2 clean ones for $35-40. Rest for face.

    50c:

Barber probably set you back $10, probably snag a clean Walker and Franklin for $10-12 for the pair I think. Face for a Clad Kennedy

    25c:

Barber probably $5-6, same for a SLQ in presentable shape, face for the others.

10c: $5 for a nice Barber dime, $1-2 for a clean Merc, face for a Roosevelt.

    5c: $3-4 for a Buffalo and a Liberty. Face for a Jefferson

1c: $2-3 for a Wheat and an Indian.

Notice he said a 20th century type set, not a 19th century. ;)

Less, unless you cherry pick a good one, or sell it on Ebay. Probably even then less (ebay). People want rare coins, good grades, attractive coins (toning etc), or errors.

A low grade type set will attract a low paying buyer, while a high grade set will maybe get you a small profit if it's nice or you sit on it while it increases in value.

Your money coins will be Barber half, Morgan, and Peace dollars. The rest for even AU should run less than $5 and $10 for the silver ones (SLQ may be higher for higher grade).

Don't buy cleaned or damaged coins.

I don't think that an uncirculated set will cost a small fortune. Here are the type coin wholesale prices for MS63 for older series and MS65 for more modern series.

    IHC (MS63)-----------------------BN $36----RB $49----RD $67
    Lincoln Wheat 1909VDB (MS63)----BN $27----RB $34----RD $52
    Lincoln Wheat 1909-1958 (MS65)--BN $3-----RB $9-----RD $12
    Lincoln Wheat Steel (MS65)----------$20
    Lincoln Memorial-------------------RD $6
    Cents Total------------------------- $92
    Liberty Head Nickel (MS63)-----------$131
    Buffalo Nickel Type 1 (MS63)---------$55
    Buffalo Nickel Type 2 (MS63)---------$29
    Jefferson Nickel (MS65)--------------$6
    Jefferson War Nickel (MS65)----------$14
    Nickel Total-------------------------$233
    Barber Dime (MS63)------------------$175
    Mercury Dime (MS65)----------------$24
    Roosevelt Dime Silver (MS65)---------$11
    Roosevelt Dime Clad (MS65)-----------$5
    Dime Total -------------------------$216
    Barber Quarter (MS63)---------------$313
    SLQ Type 1 (MS63)------------------$300
    SLQ Type 2 (MS63)------------------$225
    SLQ Type 3 (MS63)------------------$200
    Washington Quarter Silver (MS65)----$18
    Washington Quarter Clad (MS65)-----$10
    Washington Bicentennial Silver (MS65)$16
    Washington Bicentennial Clad (MS65)-$14
    Statehood Quarter (MS65)-----------$7
    Quarter Total ----------------------$1103
    Barber Half Dollar (MS63)------------$830
    Walking Liberty Half Dollar (MS63)----$46
    Franklin Half Dollar (MS65)-----------$40
    Kennedy Half Dollar Silver (MS65)----$25
    Kennedy Half Silver-Clad (MS65)-----$15
    Kennedy Half Dollar Clad (MS65)-----$10
    Kennedy Bicentennial Silver (MS65)--$16
    Kennedy Bicentennial Clad (MS65)---$15
    Half Dollar Total ------------------$997
    Morgan Dollar (MS63)---------------$47
    Peace Dollar High Relief (MS63)------$550
    Peace Dollar Low Relief (MS63)------$36
    IKE Clad (MS65)--------------------$27
    IKE Silver (MS65)-------------------$17
    IKE Bicentennial Silver (MS65)-------$25
    IKE Bicentennial Clad (MS65)--------$22
    SBA (MS65)------------------------$11
    Dollar Total-----------------------$735

    GRAND TOTAL---------------------$3376

Money is relative to people's budgets, but in my mind a great coin collection should take years to complete. If you wanted to build this set over 5 years, it would cost you approximately $700 per year assuming coin prices did not increase drastically over that time. I don't consider $700 per year a small fortune, but maybe some others do. If so, you could easily drop the Barber coinage, SLQ's and 1921 Peace Dollar down to AU's and cut the total price of the set by about 40%. Once this set was complete, you would have a collection to be proud of and one that has significant resale value. Just a thought! LOL
