Was at a local dealer Sat. and saw a nice Whitman 1973 proof set for 10.75. Was this a good price or did I overpay? Thanks.

I love the set! The cent is gorgeous! It has a ding, but still very nice! Does anyone know where I can buy more Whitman proof sets online? I don't want to use eBay. I was trying to find some on google, but it kept leading me to eBay. Any ideas? The set is beatiful.

Could you post a photo---I have a feeling that the only thing about Whitman is the case the coins are in.

I'd have to agree... I don't think Whitman ever sold coins...

I'd like to see pics as well... Sounds pretty cool...

I love Mint and Proof Sets... I'm working on building a decent set... Well decent for me... :) I'm sure some of you have sets that will blow mine away...

Yep---those are just cases that someone has put them into--you can get those cases for about $1 each.
If I were you I would look for Proof sets still in the mint packing---check out Ebay and places such as vtcoins.com...

Unfortunatly, it is on the coin. Still, it looks like a very nice proof set. Thanks all for replying.

    OH NO!

Where is the IKE dollar ? :rolling:

Yeah, I was wondering that. I guess they didn't make another space for the Ike. But that's okay. I was looking at the nickel, and is a bit of a rotated die. Not enough I don't think to be considered an error. Still, I love the set.

The Ike was issued in the 1973 Proof set. :eek:dd:

P & D Ike issued in the 1973 Unc. sets. The P & D Ikes not released for circulation.

Oops. My mistake. Not big on Ikes really. Still, a really nice set. I love proof coins. Getting a bit better at grading them, not a whole lot though. Thanks for your two cents.

I'm glad you're so happy to get this set but let me tell you what I would do if I were you.
Go back to the dealer and ask him if you can get the same '73 proof set but in the original government packaging. It will probably be a few dollars more but here is what you'll get.Nice box, nicer plastic lens,Ike dollar and no ding on the cent.
The only thing I use Whitman snap-lock holders for are to hold the coins and prop up sets in photos like these.;)

I have a couple of the 1973 uncalculated sets which will cost you a little more then the Proof.
In 73 the P&D Ike were not released for circulation, it is the only available in the Mint set.
See pic. Sorry abut bad cam

Yeah I have pondered that lol. Thanks for the suggestion phillydog, but right now I want to start a complete set of proof sets, 36 to dat. I have a long way to go. Thanks for the suggestion though. After I get proof sets done, then I'm going on to mint sets. Thanks all for responding.
