So, I got a couple of very small boxes for my coins, but my coins move around with them. I want to put cotton balls into the box to limit movement. Will the cotton damage the coin in any way? Thanks.

I would think that they would scratch the coins, very lightly, but scratch them none-the-less.

Why don't you just get 2x2's for the coins? You can get about a million for nothing.

Get the coins into some kind of holder. Even a single coin in a box is a bad idea because the coin moving around inside the box will cause additional rub and wear on the coin. And putting stuff like cotton balls inside the box is a terrible idea, that only makes things worse.

Coins need to be kept in individual coin holders, preferably hard plastic individual holders.

If you don't have holders you might want to move the coins out of the box and into a ziploc bag. Its a temporary solution but a food ziploc bag should be better than any box.

This might work in dry climates, but in a moist climate, the ziplock bag will create a moisture trap and greatly increase the speed at which the coins will corrode. My own preference is as old as the hills and probably outdated. individual 2x2 envelopes with cotton liners.

Yes, that can happen. But only if there are large, and sudden, changes in temperature. Large, and sudden, changes in temperature can cause condensation to form inside the bag.

But if stored properly, it'll never happen.

Bad idea for a couple of reasons. For one the cotton liner can cause hairlines and or wear on the coin. For another the cotton and paper envelope, can both cause unwanted toning.
