I found a 1964 nickel it is normal looking on both sides; however the edge has little circle etchings all around the nickel. Without the picture of said coin at present does it sound like something or that someone just messed with the coin? Any help would be great and I will try to get a pic up if that is needed.

If you could, please provide a picture of what you're describing to us so we can make a better determination. It sounds like it could post mint damage, could also be from being well circulated, could be someone scratched it, no of knowing without seeing it.

I assume that you mean the tiny circles make it look like a chain around the edge..........PMD
