    Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

I live in Switzerland and collect older silver coins of the world. Therefore there are a few US-silver coins in my collection too. Some days ago, I bought the following coin, a Trade-Dollar from 1878, mintmark "s". The piece is made of silver and has a weight of 27.05 g. It would be very nice if someone of you could tell me his opinion to that coin. Is it genuine? What do you think? Thank you for all answers.

    Kind regards

    Caspar

(sorry because of my english :))

We are always nervous about trade dollars since the Chinese have faked so many of them. One thing I can say is yours is slightly underweight, since 420 grains should be 27.2155 grams, and you say yours is only 27.05 grams.

I dont know much about trade dollars, except that it is a bit under the weight. Anyhow, i would love to have the chance to add one to my collection someday...

Thank you for the answers. Yes, the chinese fakes became unfourtenately better the last years. However, I hope the coin is genuine :).
