Would there be any interest in having a challenge for those of us who hunt rolls? I know many do it only to find silver, or proofs, or errors, but I was thinking something a little different. I recently completed searching over 5,000 quarters and have been going through ones I set aside for later review to see if any are worth keeping. I only found a few decent 1968s and 1968-Ds. After the cessation of silver use in '64, the mint made over 4 BILLION quarters in '65, '66 and '67, but only 220 million in '68. These are now extremely difficult to find in even medium grades, let alone high grades. Would anyone enjoy a challenge over the next, say, 3 months, to finding the best '68 of either mint? We could include anything from last year as well. I would say we could accept either found in change or roll hunting, but not through any sort of coin purchase. If no interest then no problem, but if so respond and we can set something up. If a different coin or year was preferred, we could run a poll to what would be preferred by most. We could either vote for our favorite internally or select the best and post in the main forum for all of the members to participate. Also, for those more experienced here than I, would this be the appropriate location for this to take place? Here is the best of each that I found late last year. 1968 1968-D
I'm not in a position to participate (not ready to bump roll-searching back up the priority list), but I'd be very interested to see the results. Also wouldn't mind hearing @cladking's take on this...
I hunt only about 75 quarter rolls a year any longer and can't remember the last time I found a pre-72 with any luster at all. I found a nice attractive VF just a few months back and thought that was about the best. I found a nice AU '70-D nickel just last month.
