For example, when they say a Morgan dollar is 0.77344 oz. pure silver...

Is it a given that this is troy oz. or is it just oz.?

And how do you know which it is? Where does it say?

I know the conversion from oz to troy oz is oz.(0.911)= troy oz. so it does matter.

The gold is also all in oz. so I've been guessing that everything in the book is simply in oz. since it does not specify.

Its a good question, I've always just assumed its already in troy oz cause that is how precious metals go.

Precious metals are measured in troy ounces.
