Didn't see this anywhere else. I was just wondering if toning, corrosion and or carbon spots can jump coins. Say there was a toned cent next to a bu in a roll. Would that make the bu tone faster or will there be no effect? How about a corroded cent next to a bu? Again, same question but with carbon spots. (pre 82 if metal type matters). Does the powder on latex gloves do anything over time? Just crossed my mind while sorting/rerolling micro-mini hoard. Thanks

I am not a chemist but corrosion on one coin will react with another coins over time. Toning and carbon spots are also a chemical reaction between metal and the environment and could possible transfer from on coin to another if the condition are right. As far as the power gloves go, use non-powered gloves.

GLOVES: Most sources recommend lintfree cotton gloves first, latex second.
And, yes, powder-free on the latex gloves.

TONING, CORROSION & CARBON SPOTS: To the best of my knowledge, no, they can't "jump" from one coin to another.
But corrosion in particular can migrate from one coin to another if they are in contact.
Best solution: Remove the conditions that caused the problem in the first place.
That means maintaining a relatively constant temperature and low humidity.
And a clean environment. Carbon spots are generally caused by dust, etc. settling on a coin. (And sneezing on a coin too.)
