I was wondering how low a serial number has to be to be worth something above face value. Is there a general rule or does it depend on the amount printed at a given Reserve? For example would a 2003A $2 in near uncirculated condition with the serial number J 00075413 A be low enough.
if you look at serial alone, 4 leading zeroes or more is best. 3 leaqding zeros like you note stillmeans 75,000 and more notes came before it. Low, but not rally low enough IMHO. Looking at the total printing for your note, there were12.8 million notes printed. This is alot of notes for the note to catch a premium. the grade of the note would also come into play. a non-unc note with 4 leading zeros might not catch the eye of collectors, where a unc note might
