Hello all, My youngest daughter and I are putting together a folder of state quarters. We're doing this more for fun then for any investment value. I have accumulated a few rolls of extras that I don't need. I've been holding on to them but one of the ways I finance my own coin collection is from saving all my pocket change between coin shows. They are all in circulated condition and with a show coming up in January, I'd like to add them to my "cash in at the bank" pile. Is there any reason to hold on to them ? Thanks in advance, NEV
I would suggest buying more albums or various coin folders to make sets. If you're going to keep them in order to make a profit in the future, it would be better to have whole sets.
Unfortunately , I believe that what Idhair suggests is true. Nice set to pass along to your heirs though, especially if it's a complete MS set.
+1 While MS sets on eBay are commanding a premium, circulateds never will, just waaayyy too many minted. The only point to keeping them would be possibly for a gift to a niece or nephew, friend's Boy or Girl Scout child, etc. Hope this helps.
Great question, I started saving 5P and 5D uncirculated for each state and 12each P&D circulated and then I also filled up a 2 whitman books and 3 state quarter maps. But I saw all that money that I could use on other coins. So one day I cashed every thing but the 5 MS uncirculated P's and D's and ended up buying several Mercury dimes. But I know you can go a bit over board, I sure did.
Welcome to the forum Nev and the folks here have given you some solid advice. Being a "modern" collector myself, I don't fool myself about future value of these issues. Save the album(s) and spend the rest. Remember, it was the State Quarter program that got you back into collecting. Now, it seems, you have advanced somewhat. Time to move to the next level. Enjoy collecting and have fun collecting with that little lady of yours.....
Welcome to CT! I am happy to hear you are enjoying the hobby with your daughter. I would cash the extra state quarters in at the bank, ask if they have any of the new America the Beautiful quarters (series runs for next 10 years), and start a new folder of those with your daughter. Enjoy! TC
