question on licoln cent

here is a 1957 wheat cent with what looks like a die chip. only thing is that this "chip" in underneath the letter "I" (IN GOD WE TRUST) and the" I" still remains perfectly intact. ANy ideas on what this may be?

Gas bubble?

 

is a gas bubble hollow? if so, i would think it would collapse upon striking. it must have been there prior to strike though whatever it is
