Hey guys. I realize many large cents corroded, have enviro damage, have been cleaned and re-colored. But what if theres one in an NGC/PCGS slab with a small area of obvious darker streaks slanting at a 45 degree angle? In a small section of the field and it did not raise any red flags and the coin got a normal grade? Not details graded. What would cause this?

    Fingerprint maybe?

Could be...it wouldnt get a details grade for a finger print? They seem too perfectly straight and thick for a finger print IMO.

agree on the fingerprint, they are not visible at time of grading but overtime will appear after. They tend to have a slight grey appearance and usually located around the edge areas. I have a Kennedy like that in a PCGS Holder.

From what I understand, fingerprints do not affect the technical grade of a coin.

From the looks of it I can't say for sure what it is - but fingerprint is reasonable. To me a fingerprint or something like this only impacts if I want the coin or not. :) Some of the more modern coins I would not touch with the big old fingerprints that appear on them. :)

Except possibly on high end MS grades.
