This coin has a catalog listing as being from each of the 5 mints. But I can find nothing on the coin to indicate the mint. There does not appear to be a mintmark. Previous issues have indicated the mint by the form of the letter E in the edge inscription but I see nothing on this coin to distinguish in this way.

Does anyone have any information about this coin?

I would look at the edge again. can you post pics of this coin with both sides in focus ? KM#298 date is 2010 are you thinking 2011 KM#295 ? what is the subject on your coin ?

Sorry. Yes, that was a typo. I changed the title to be 2010. It is the Alpine Skiing one. There is a date of 2011 on the reverse I guess that is the date of the event. SCWC has it listed as a 2011 coin but says it was issued in 2010. Now I look closely I see that the date 2010 is on the obverse.

The edge inscription is "FESTSPIELE IM SHNEE". Some other coins issued by Germany have edge inscriptions with 5 letter Es and the mint is indicated by which E has a short middle bar. They all seem to be the same on my coin.

my guess is that is still on the edge of the coin. I have gone to Bing search engine and typed in your coin and went to various places that had your coin in UNC. and proof and asked the question where is the mint mark on this coin ? hopefuly when I get home from work 1 of the 3 people I asked will have the answer. Actually the edge inscription is FESTSPIELE IM SCHNEE ADFGJ ... except that this won't really help you here, as it simply lists all mints. ;) The 10 euro (or these days 20 euro) collector coins always have the date on the eagle side, so you are right, the 2010 is the date and 2011 refers to when that skiing cup took place.

Now in this case the mint can be determined by looking at what the skier wears, hehe. For that piece a Microglyph code was used, and you will need a magnifying glass to find where your coin was made. See here for example.

Amazing!! Thank you so much. That has got to be the most obscure mintmark ever! I'll look at it later when I have a little time and report back. Perhaps I need to scan it in at 19200 pixels per inch!

EDIT: Seems like it is mintmark J. This is one of the wonderful things about this site. There is no way at all that I could have found that information by myself as I do not read German and could not search German information.
    Thanks again!
