I have a bank roll of uncirculated 1958 Jeffs. I just opened them after having them for 45 yrs. They are uncirc. but the rev. on nearly all of them have weak strikes. Is this common for that yr.? Only a few have any steps at all, and the doorway hardly shows. Thanks.
For ALL Jefferson nickels, it's fairly common to have a weaker strike. That's why sharp strikes and full steps have such a premium.
Probably not much more than 45-50 cents. But realize that they made half a billion of these, so there will obviously be more FS nickels than in 1958 when the mintage was only 17 MILLION, not billion.
Certainly not uncommon. The 1958 issue varies in strike from full to very weak. Changes to the master hub in 1987 resulted in overall sharper nickels, with generally much better steps. Most nickels dated 1987 and later were struck with at least five full steps.
