    Team,

In your opinion what is the coin that is most often mis-attributed as valuable by newer collectors or people who think they've found or have a hidden treasure in the family. Most of us have had somebody ask us what the value of a rather common piece is. When you answer honestly they seem sure your wrong or pulling their leg as to the low value of the coin.

You can answer this anyway you like: Morgan Dollar, 1964 Half Dollar, etc.

It's odd but lately I've had two different individuals ask me about common date Mercury Dimes. They think are worth $Hundreds$. This is just in the past week???

1943 Steel Cents are the ones that I hear about the most.

It's most likely because they think it's old, well very likely a lot older than them, which makes them think it's a family antique object. Coupled with the facts that they aren't seen in circulation that common, they think it's fairly rare. And when that happens, they can just name a price whatever they wish. Smart isn't it? ;)

    rare!

I've had a few people ask me about morgans and silver halves. they are amazed when I tell them what they would sell for. They think...but it's so old. I get exited that my worn out halves are worth $3.00 each, and they say only $3.00??? Common mercury dimes too...less than $1.00????

Definately common date Morgans. Every person that has brought me coins to appraise all seem disappointed when I tell them what their '21 Morgans are worth. They see a large, silver coin with some age and immediately think $$$. A good example is the local estate auctions. People go crazy when they see them and usually bid well over their true value for the same reason.
