Question about storing coins?

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by cookiemonster12, Jan 9, 2011.

  1. I have a Whittman tube where I keep my steel pennnies. I'm pretty new to coin collecting, so I only have about a dozen or so in there now. There are a few of them with a bit of corrosion on them, one is pretty heavily corroded. My question is if it's safe to keep them that way, or can the corrosion spread to the other coins? Thank you for your time :)

Corrosion can spread, especially if it's verdigris.

Just remember that you should keep these steelies in the lowest moisture environment you can find. I found this out the hard way. An air tight container with a desiccant packet would be a good start.

Another good idea is keeping them sepperate from one another!
