I was wanting a little guidance on buying silver rounds and ingots. If the spot price(?) of silver is $6.50 an ounce, what is a fair price for: A half ounce round: not a coin, no numismatic value, with no value but the .999 silver content. Should 2 half ounce rounds cost more than one ounce round, minted by the same company like Sunshine Mint? A troy ounce round: not a coin, no numismatic value, with no valure but the .999 silver content. An ounce ingot with some type of design\artwork? I assume the cost here is higher because of the artwork. I want to get some bulk silver bullion in, 1\2, 1 and 2 ounce weights, but I don't want to pay too much. Am I wrong in assuming that a silver round produced by the Sunshine Mint or Hoffman and Hoffman has no numismatic value? With the spot price of silver at $6.50 what is a reasonable price? i.e, at what price should I stop bidding. TIA.
north west territory mint sells its silver in bar form at spot + 60 cents ounce. thats probably as cheap as you get.you have to by a small quantity as a minimum to get this. silver eagles go for a premium of about 2 usd each if bought by the tube, can get these also at same place or most anywhere. canadian maples got for spot+ 1.50 coin.once again by the tups. rounds/medallions can usually be bought at about spot + 1 usd each. these prices are about as cheap as you will get, check out a lot of places and there reputations before making any purchase and once happy try them out with min quantity and build up your purchases. another popular way to acumulate silver is in old so called junk coins. These can often be had for little more than spot price but dont expect to find any good uns amougst them. They can often be purchased from as little as 4.5x face.this it depends again how much you want to buy a 1000 usd face bag or pay a bit more premium for parts of. most people that buy silver for investment i know buy a mixture of all of the above.
