    Hello all,
I have a question that I hope can be answered.
In the RedBook by Yeoman, the coins are listed in order of the dates. As you follow the line in, it relays information like number minted, and the prices for each grade. My question is this: On some coins, right before the mintage number, there is a (smaller numerical) number in parenthesis. This number is not before every mintage number, just on certain ones. What does that number mean?

I tried to look it up in the book and online but am coming up empty handed. Am I missing something?

    Thanks

Hello there. That is the number of coins minted as "proofs." You will find that the number in parenthesis is almost always smaller than the normal coins minted for circulation.
    Enjoy,

That is the number of proofs minted in that year.

Sometimes they will be italicized and that means it's an estimated number.
