I sent in some stuff to be graded. They list there are 4 basic steps. 1) Receiving 2) Scheduled for grading 3) Grading/Quality control 4) Finalized/Imaged/shipped If you fill out the forms right it flies through step 1 and 2 in a couple days. I'm now at step 3, and used a non-expedited service, so can anybody tell me from experience how long it will usually take for step 3 and 4 to take place? Approximate would be fine or any range that you've experienced. Thank you in advance....it is appreciated.
I usually figure about a month for grading round trip. sometimes like near the start of the year or a popular coin release the turnaround is longer due to so many coins being sent in for early release or just to be the first on the resale market.
Usually quickly through receiving and scheduled for grading. In grading/quality control, it sits in the queue waiting its turn. They just have to wait their turn at this point.
May I ask something? How did you submit the coins to NGC? By yourself or through a dealer? Thinking of sending few coins for grading but not sure how.
I did it myself. You have to join their collectors society to do it yourself, but it was pretty easy to fill out the form online and send them in. Now it's just a wait...
I believe the policy is still: a. if you are an ANA member it is free. b. if you aren't you have to pay a fee -- yearly. PCGS I don't think cares WHO you are. You have to pay to join.
You can get an Associate Membership for $39 per year which will allow you to maintain online tracking for each submission. The free memberships like that of the ANA member program do not provide this added benefit. If you find that you will be submitting more and more coins through the course of any one year, this may be a better alternative to submitting through a member/dealer who will, of course, charge you for his/her services but you will not be able to track the dealer submission online. I only have about 5 coins to send for grading, don't think it's worth becoming a member. I was thinking to send through an authorized dealer. Silverfool could you please let me know how you send through your LCS, just go there, leave the coins with them, and that's all they take care of the rest? Saw this offer on the NGC website, 19 dollars a coin at least 5 coins, so 95.00 total. Plus tax, shipping, dealer fee, how much would the total be? Thanks all.
If you go to NGC's website, it will show you the levels of membership. If you pony up the $129 or whatever it is, they give you 5 free early bird submissions, which is about the cost of grading at early bird level. So while it does have a cost, they basically give a good part of the membership fee back. I just re-joined and the fee was $109, and they give the coupon for 5 free early bird submissions for that also. I suggest going to their website and reading the levels of membership, what they cost and what benefits they provide.
