Question about Grading services

This may be a dumb question but I'll ask anyway. When submitting coins to PCGS , NGC or ANACS for grading , will they indicate when grading whether the coin happens to be an error or special variety automatically? Or will they only indicate an error or variety on the slab if I request and pay for this extra service? Will they not mention a mint error on the slab even if it is in fact an error? Im not as skilled yet at identifying these errors or varities so will the services not point it out to me?? Or only if I request and pay for that service in advance?
    Thanks

I'm no expert, but since they ask for more money for that service, and since it is a separate part of the firm, I'm gonna say they won't do it unless you ask.

(I'd be happy to be wrong...)

You must pay for the extra service. If the error or variety is painfully obvious, they'll likely contact the submittor to recommend the additional service while the coin is in their possession.

Some of the more common ones are actually listed as options for grading (i.e. 1955 DDO Cent is its own category). As for a mint error, you'll pay more. But as for whether the TPG would tell you that 1955 you submitted as a regular cent is the much more valuable DDO? Can't speak to that.

Yes, they'll make that correction from 1955 to 1955 DDO for free, because the 55DDO has a coin number in their list already, so they'd regard that as an erroneous submission.

You need to look on their respective web sites for specific information. ANACS is a bit different, but NGC & PCGS will only do attributions if you specifically ask for them to be done and pay for the additional service.

But there are some major varieties that they will automatically identify, but only a few of them.

Lots of folks don't understand this issue. As a normal you pay extra to have it on the label and you have to ask for it. ANACS used to do it at the same price but that may have changed.
