I am almost done with IKE Dansco album. My next collecting project would be Dansco albums Lincoln from 1909 to 1958 and 1959 to 1998. My question would be the condition of coin based on bn, rb and rd. I want to know if rd penny will turn to rb or bn in Dansco album? If yes, how long before it will turn from rd to rb or bn?
They all turn eventually depending and I believe it depends on the storage condition. Maybe not in your life time, but they I believe they will. As it is I like brown coins and most of mine are low grade browns until you get maybe into the 70's and 80's. Of course most of mine come from poket change. Just my opinion.
I agree with mark. The turning of the color has more to do with the actually environment then it does with the album. A cooler and less humid environment will slow the process down.
Thank you for share your feedback. The reason for my question is high price for rd, but low price for bn on same grade. For example, 1909 MS65bn value around $60 and 1909 MS65rd value around $350. Suppose I placed MS65rd in Dansco album and it may turn to bn over time, then it would not be worth to invest raw penny rd for Dansco album? Am I better off focus on bn as it will stay bn unless verdigris has developed. What would you do if you want to place MS quality penny coins in Dansco album?
I would attempt to make a slabbed version of the Dansco folder if I were you. Unless you hate slabbed coins.
I don't like slabbed coins as collection set. It take too much space if I am trying to complete a set for fun and preserve value.
Red copper in Dansco albums is a really bad idea. Go with brown and save wasting a lot of money. It's that simple.
I'd echo this. Red, early Lincolns are best preserved in slabs or airtights. Albums are for circulated brown Lincolns.
