When one buys a coin album ( Dansco - Whitman ) etc. what is the best way to slide the plastic slides. They are recesed in the albums and if you try to slide them with your thumb you leave thumb prints. They do not slide out easy either. Once I do get them out I do not insert them all the way in so I can access them more easily. Just wondering how you all get around this problem. Thank you. Gallienus267

White cotton gloves -- available at several places on the internet, or at your local pharmacy.

Work the slide a couple of times first,

Just work the slides carefully in and out a couple of times first. Then remove them and clean them and assemble your album. Wearing gloves is good and when removing or seating back the slides you can carefully move them in a up and down motion on the ends to get them centered then they are much easier. Some canned air come in handy also to blow of any dust that may end up on coins are slides - be sure to shake and blow some of the air of the canned air into space first before you blow onto the coins or slides.

I'm surprised that some of you are able to take these slides out with your gloves on. I can't even get a grip on these things with gloves on. Some of the Dansco slides do fit very tightly and are hard to get out. When I'm either adding a coin or replacing a coin, I only remove the top slide. I wet my thumb a little and wipe it (gives that tacky feeling), and then I can slide it out between my index finger and using my thumb. It may leave a thumb print but I always wipe the slides with a lense cloth after putting it back in.

I have a terrible time with these slides. I definitely recommend sliding them in and out a few times before putting the coin in.

Thanks for the advice. The method that I use is to try to get a pair of tweezers in under the paper and to grab onto the plastic and then pull it out. This works but is still hard to grasp the plastic. Gloves wound prevent the thumb marks but are to slippery. I will try the wet thumb idea and see how this works. When I get them out I keep them out maybe 1/8 inch or so I can access the more easy. Only when the panel is complete do I insert them fully. I do have an Intersept shield album that has recess tabs which makes it real easy to grasp the tabs. I wish all manufactures would take the hint.

I don't buy albums. For my US coins I use the 2X2 plastic holders from Whitman or Marcus. I do use Whitman Coin Folders for my foreign coins.

I only have one Dansco album, Half Dimes. The slides in these give me quite a fit because there arent any thumb tabs on the edge of the page. This is why I like the Whitman Classic albums, the slides are easier to slide and they are easier to grab ahold of.
