from my frequent visits to the bank i have found foreign coins of different size in the return shoot and also have gotten coins from canada and different countries in the rolls. I read somewhere that Canadian coins are part silver until 71. is there any truth to this? if Canada DID make silver coins... until what year was it? are there other countries that made coins of silver in the 60's and 70's. any and all help is appreciated. ty.
Up until 67 Canadian dimes, quarters, and dollars were 80% silver. In 68 they switched to 50% though some of them are also 99% nickel.
ty for that. so then it is an accurate statement on silver up to 71? its what I look for in rolls so I don't want to throw them back by accident
If want the details, this is a good place to start... http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/canada.htm (click on the denomination that interests you)
The last country to get rid of silver coins was West Germany in the late 70s. I think it was 77. Although Mexico briefly brought back silver coins in 1990. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Try this list bryantallard, it's a good starting point: http://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-guide-to-foreign-silver-coins.207779/#post-1713846
This is also a good source to find current values of silver coins. I use it to check the years of silver coins too since people list them incorrectly sometimes on ebay. http://currencydebasement.com/high-silver#P
