I'm pretty much directly north of Baltimore right near the PA line, so it's not surprising that the vast majority of my coins are from Philly. However, I've picked more than $400 face value of copper cents and I've yet to finish a full roll of 68-74 San Fran's. I average ~20% copper from each box, so that's roughly 200,000 pennies I've been through. Maybe half of those are red and in over all good shape, but I was just wondering if they were so scarce in other parts of the country. I probably find 10 wheats for ever 68 to 74-S.
Due to the way the Fed distributed the cents, most of S cents stayed on the west side of the Mississippi, and visa versa for the P cents. Some in the middle area could receive either types. Bags and bags here.
I find a decent number of them considering I am pretty close to the Great White Northern Neighbour country. Until recently the least common date I found was the '73-S but those have been turning up in greater quantities whence I search cents.
I live just south of Baltimore and just started roll searching in August. I've found 76 S cents in the 45107 coins I've searched through so far. That's a whopping 0.001684% of the total. Needless to say, I keep every one I come across.
My results are close to yours here in VA but I find a little more than you per wheat. How many 2009s do you find per 10 wheat?
