    I know that coins through 1964 were 90 % silver. But what coins and years were 40 % ???

    Thanks !

    Kennedy Halves, 1965 to 1970;

    1976-S quarters, halves, and dollars, in the bicentennial silver proof and silver uncirculated sets;

    Some S-minted Eisenhower dollars, 1971 to 1976 (often called "brown Ikes" because of the background of the packaging they came in.)

    There were also 40% silver blue Ikes and some '77-D Ikes made in error.

    There are persistent claims of '71 and '71-D kennedys in 40%.

    Thanks troodon,I had no idea that the "brown" Ikes were silver clad like the "blues".
    When I look at them under indoor lighting,they look like any clad proof and not bright like silver.The outer layer is .800 silver and you'd think it would look like any other .900 coin.
