question about 1956 d/s wdmm-001

on the coin in question. if there truly is an S between the 1 and 9, how could it get so wide? trying to learn specifics, how, and why these things happen. ty in advance for any advice

I have my doubts personally. I would need to see an early die state to really decide. It is only mentioned in a few places and with latter states. IMO of course.
