Is this morgan a vam11A or an early die state. When I looked in vamworld recently it says the vam 11A has been eliminated but the early die state remains is this an early die state?the other pictures have the most important die breaks for the vam/early die state and does it give extra value to the coin
the other two are kinda hard to see in the first picture there is one by the E/D and the second picture there is one that starts above the T and ends near the top of the S
Vam 11 is situated high under the wreath. Yours is in normal position. Date and mintmark position are normally the first things to be checked when trying to attribute a Vam. Photo of MM on VAM 11
Now I see the difference thank you , Not use to vams don't collect them but is the morgan still another type of vam or is it just a normal morgan with some nice die breaks.
All Morgan and Peace dollars are VAMs. It is basically the study of which die pairs were used to strike the coins. Study your coin against each of the listings for that date and MM. You will see by the date and MM descriptions you can eliminate a number of them easily. After that you need to look for the other die markers as described for each VAM. Good luck, I have a few that still elude me, can be very frustrating but also rewarding when you finally nail one down.
yes I know that all morgns/peace dollars are vams I was referring to special vams as thats what i call them it's time to go on vamworld and learn something new.
There are some that are more collectable than others, such as those listed in the top 100 etc. but generally, people attribute them for many reasons. Some like to put together as many die pairs from an issue as they can. Others just for the pleasure of being able to record the VAM number in their records. Just don't get sidetracked by the R number (Rarity index), as they very, very often have no bearing on market value
