I picked this up from a very trustworthy seller on eBay for $75. I am wondering why it is so shiny. I suspect it has been cleaned, but the surface is very smooth unlike most cleaned coins. It is much shinier than even these pics indicate in hand. It appears to have been struck over an 8 reales.

Polished? That would make it shiny and smooth.

Kinda hard to say from the pics, but I'm going to also say it's polished. Here's a pic of a polished coin of my own for reference.

Looks like it was cleaned at one stage.

It has either been dipped or polished. Either way, I love these Brazilian coins! Thanks for the replies.
