Hey guys, maybe someone on here lives in Europe or has been there can answer my question. Does the 500 euro note circulate much and have you seen one in circulation? I'm just interested in large denomination notes. Also is the €20 Euro note the most common kind of like with the $20 bill in the US? Thanks Rich
I use €20 and €50`s when travelling through Europe. Never seen a €500, they can`t be bought or exchanged in the UK at banks or currency shops, see the link for explanation. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8678979.stm
No idea what euro notes have been "withdrawn" outside the euro area; why would I care? But over here the €200 and €500 notes do not actually circulate. You may of course go to your bank, take some cash off your account and ask the cashier to give you such high denomination notes. And then? Maybe, if you buy a used car for example, you could use those. Otherwise ... nah, I don't see them in everyday life. Many stores do not accept them anyway. If it was up to me, we would have four "paper" denominations: 10, 20, 50 and 100. For the fiver, I would prefer a coin, and the 200 and 500 I don't need. But if some people prefer storing cash this way ... Christian
