I have what I believe to be a 1989-d Washington quarter clad error, the color looks like a dark nickel color.Does anyone have an idea of what the weight would be if a Washington quarter was missing the clad layer ?

    Thanks Bruce.

The specification is 5.67g, so a missing layer coin should be in the vicinity of 3.8, or maybe a little more because the outer layers don't seem to be quite as thick as the center layer.

Unfortunately I never weighed the missing reverse clad bicentennial quarter i found in a mint bag, and sold to Fred Weinberg about 27 years later. I can tell you that the thickness difference is substantial.

Bear in mind that since the center layer is the one with a much higher copper content, a true missing clad error should be coppery on one side, not dark nickel-colored.

So is it missing the clad layer? If so, great find.
