Any opion about how to deal with these coins. The photos are from the Ebay source so sorry about details, but on the 1904 the dirty stuff in the head band behind the ear; and by the "I" and between the 1 and 9 in 1901. That stuff with coin in hand (the 1901 only) looks like little green bumbs (raised off the surface of the coin). Would anyone crack out the coin from the holder on the 1904 and put on Blue Ribbon or Coin Care? I already know the Administrator's answer. PS- Absolutely love this forum. I don't want to make any major decisions without consulting the "pros". Also any opionion of Airtite's versus Intercept. Airtites seem a lot more airtite than Intercept and we know "air" is the enemy (bad air). Thanks dprice7
If indeed it is PVC, you can do one of two things: 1. Crack the slabb and clean it yourself and resubmit it to a coin certification service. (if you want it slabbed again) 2. The Numismatic Conservation Service works directly with the coin grading service NGC and will restore your coin then submit it to NGC for grading. http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewarticle.aspx?NewsletterNewsArticleID=316 I would take it to a professional in your area for numismatic advice before doing either of the above. From the image the 1904 looks to be in an old 10 digit slab. I don't think I would mess with it. The 64 grade looks right to me. I would never do this to an MS coin. It is what it is. Just my first thoughts.
