My father recently gave me his UNC Kennedy Halves collection from 64 to 80, but it was in an old Harco Album which made me cringe as I opened it, for fear of the green slime. Sigh of relief, no visible damage to any of the coins obverses or reverses, but there are a few that have a sticky feeling on the edge reeding and a dark brownish color. Any ideas what that is? Thanks in advance.

recently my plastic sandwich bags for coin keeping were contaminated with chemical. i throw all of them out. so it won't affect my coins.

I think that if a person had to use an album, the Harco design was the best. One could easily decided exactly what was going to be in their collection. Want a 1935 DDO in your Lincoln album, easily done.........Except !! the older pages had PVC plasiticizers galore and produced over time the "sticky" and even the "green" results which lead to actual corrosion and "black carbon spots of CuS".

If you have no green or black, smile! The sticky stuff can be removed with acetone, and the coins put into different pages or holders. Harco type pages are now made differently if you like the pages and the albums.

The dark brown color ( if on the '64 and the 40% silver ones) is most likely toning. A photo would give better answers.

Theres none on the 64's, its on 40% halves. Theres one that has a thin brownish line on the obverse rim. I ordered a Dansco album for them being that the rest of my coin collection is in Danscos. Thanks for your answer. Ill post pics very soon.
