...of Kennedy half dollars. How many boxes of coin would it take to put together a regular set made entirely of business-strike Kennedy halves through 2001? Has anyone done so? I'm up to $1,230 searched so far, and currently I'm lacking a 1964 D, 1970 D, both 1987s, and a 2001 P. Oddly enough, I figured the 2001s would be the easiest in the list to find but it is tough for some reason. I know the '70 and '87s will be difficult. Anybody try this / keep track? What is the LOWEST amount of coin searched to put together a complete set of circulated Kennedys? (I considered working this into a contest, but have no idea how to go about it / verify responses accurately).
The 70D is a mint set only issue, so finding one in a box could take a while. The 64 "D" mintmark is on the reverse, so make sure you check. And as far as the 2001s, someone near me dumped a bunch of BU 2001s in my area, every time I saw a shiney half, I knew the date before I looked at the obverse. The 87s took my son a while also. But give it time and a couple hundred more boxes and you will probably get it done.:thumb: P.s. search enough boxes and you will start to see the rest of the dates through at least 2010 in the boxes as well. People buy the bags from the mint to check for errors, varieties and high grade coins, and then dump the rest. Impaired proofs as well. Here is my most modern proof roll find
I bought a 1970 mint set for the 70D, I think it'll be a long time before I find one in a box. I've found about an equal amount of 64s as 64Ds. As already stated, that's the only year of Kennedy that the mintmark is on the reverse, so if you didn't know that, check the ones you've already found. While I've now found both a few 87Ps and an 87D, the 87D took me a while, so I ended up buying a 1987 mint set. As for MS examples of everything else, it didn't take me too long. Still waiting for a 2011D and the 2012s though.
ive searched proabably around 13k worth of coins and just need 64d and 66. I also have found 2002-2011 coins completed
