Hiya, Now that I've complete my lincoln collection (1909-2005), I'm moving on to dimes. So far got a set minus 1916D in Fine with the 1921's being good. I've dabbled a bit in these months ago and picked up a couple AU's from 1938-1945.
nope,1909svdb and 1921 plain. There are no PF's but a lot of unc's including 1909vdb (very brown but with mint lustre around the details),1909p,1926p,1930p and 1934p &d.From there on,about 90% are uncirculated. It took me a long time and a LOT of upgrading tho.
Now i'm trying to upgrade my mercury dime set.I won't rest until I get them all in this condition.I might die but no rest.
I didn't count the 22 Plain....might some day but didn't as it is more of an error than a "coin" Speedy
The 22 plain isn' really even an error, just a coin struck from a really worn out die that should have been retired instead of kept in use.
Maybe the 22 plain isn't a "true" coin needed for completion of the set, but when you tell someone that you have a complete set of wheat cents there are 4 coins that they care about seeing. The SVDB, the 14D, the 22 plain, and the 55 DDO. "Real" or not, those two "errors" are generally accepted as integral parts to a "complete set of Lincolns." Whether you (or anyone) like it or agrees with it, that is the case.
I have a question for you who collect lincons, Do you collect by the year including different mints and varieties or just different mints? I would assume if one was to collect all the varieties it'll cost a fortune. I have a bunch of lincons but I'm not sure whether I should store them in an album and try to finish it off since hunting for the varieties will empty my pocket. What's your experiance?
TCT If that is the case...and its not...then many of the Co. that sell complete sets are not telling the truth... Mr Eliasberg didn't have a complete set of cents then...and we know that he is the only one to complete a set of US coins and if he completed it then his set must have been complete yet he didn't count the 22-P or the 55/55. Sorry CT...but I disagree and I think many of the other collectors would also. Shatsi If you mean things like RPM's and such then no...not many I know do count them in the set...a set is one of each date and mintmark....the 22P and 55/55 can be counted as extras but are not counted as part of the set. Speedy
My Lincoln Wheat set consists of an example of every general strike except 09-S VDB and Matte Proofs. Got the proofs from 1936 forward. I've got examples of all the different MMs (Large, Small, Serif, etc) for each year and 590 different attributed varieties. I'm still years away from completing the set. Seem to get further behind every day.
